Our Story
Welcome to Arcs, Runs and Coops, proudly founded and operated by myself, Martin Elson.
With a solid foundation in Mathematics, Engineering, and Education, I have dedicated many years to teaching and collaborating with engineers. Now, I’m stepping out from behind the teacher’s desk to show that those who teach can indeed do!
Driven by my admiration for craftsmanship and beautiful design, my mission is to create aesthetically pleasing and highly functional poultry
houses. I will use primarily traditional materials, complemented by recycled materials where beneficial. My goal is to provide poultry houses that enhance the joy of animal-keeping with structures that boast pleasing design, high build quality, and superb functionality.
Starting the business from scratch has given me the chance to rethink traditional methods. Each of my builds features a unique hybrid approach, combining pressure-treated redwood with recycled plastic agricultural flooring. This choice ensures easy cleaning, no damp or rot, and the material is perfectly suited for farm animals.
We are committed to offering the highest level of customer service and offer great value for money.
Arcs, Runs and Coops is fortunate to have the support of chicken farmer Howard from Poultry Paddock. His invaluable insight has been integrated into our designs, ensuring that our builds are both functional for animal welfare and convenient for owners. Howard will continue to have input with all designs and will be offering tips for chicken keepers. See Howard’s Place, the man in the know; or visit Poultry Paddock.
Looking ahead, we will be introducing new products, including runs that match the coops and arks, a modular full-height run system, and variously sized coops.
Our aspiration is that, over the coming years, our builds will find their place in gardens, paddocks and smallholdings across the country, providing animal keepers with beautiful, high-quality housing where functionality and animal welfare are paramount.
